Stowe has spent 35 years in the field of advancement. As an independent consultant, she has worked with clients such as the Aga Khan University, the University of Brighton, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the United Nations Foundation. Stowe previously spent 20 years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ultimately serving as vice president for resource development. She has been a member of development teams at the Tufts Medical Center (formerly New England), the University of Minnesota, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Inc. Stowe is also an advocate for the Morris campus. She has provided consultation regarding national and international funding opportunities, has acted as volunteer counsel to the chancellor and vice chancellor for external relations, and has established the Theodore S. and Tone H. Long Scholarship.

Stowe holds a bachelor of arts in American studies. She is affiliated with Management Sciences for Health, the World Peace Foundation, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and the Association of Development Officers of Urban Universities.
