Houtman is a 1994 UMN Morris graduate with a BA in French and European studies. She is the chief optimization officer at the Iowa Donor Network (IDN). Houtman has been a part of the organ and tissue donation and transplantation community since 2005 when she first joined IDN working with hospitals to strengthen their internal donation programs. Previous roles include fundraising for a women’s health non-profit and human resources at an integrated health system. She is married to UMN Morris alum Jon Houtman ’94 who majored in biology and chemistry. They live in Iowa City, Iowa, where Jon is a professor of immunology at the University of Iowa. They have two teenaged sons.
