Dalager is originally from Morris, attended high school there, graduating from UMN Morris in 1971. He then attended graduate school at the UMN Twin Cities and William Mitchell College of Law, graduating in January 1977, the last year the Vikings played in the Super Bowl.

Dalager returned to Morris and started practicing law, joining several fellow UMM-ers, like Mike Fluegel and Warrenn Anderson, and later Amy Doll-Wohlers and Lynnae and Jason Lina. He continues to work at the firm part time, considering himself “part time retired” as well.

He and his family have actively supported UMN Morris over the years, funding two scholarships, one for legacy scholars and one for musicians.

In 2015–16 he returned to UMN Morris under a “Senior Citizen’s option,” He studied French and, in July, 2016, studied abroad in Paris with other UMN Morris students and members of the French language faculty, furthering his language studies and learning about French history and culture. He also was a Campus Ambassador, giving tours to prospective students.

Dalager has served on many councils and boards, noting his presidency on the National Board of Directors for Pheasants Forever as a highlight. Bob enjoys training and field trialing his English setters, wild bird hunting, and following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
