Ron Larson grew up on a farm in the Kensington area and participated for 4 years as a centerfielder in baseball and free safety in football for the Cougars. The 1970 baseball and football teams were the first conference champions in UMM history. Following
graduation Larson taught and coached as head basketball coach at Underwood, Braham, Fergus Falls and St. Francis for 35 years. At St. Francis he led his team to 3 State Tournaments and served as their Athletic/Activities Director for 20 years retiring in 2010. Anoka-Ramsey Community College hired him as a teacher and head basketball coach where he led his team to 2 National Tournaments. After 15 years, Ron officially retired from ARCC following a stint as Interim Foundation Director.
Ron has served on many boards and committees during his education/coaching career including the MSHSL Board of Directors, Region 7AA Administrative Governance, Minnesota AAU committee, MSHSL Athletic Advisory committee and others. He continues to serve on the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Representative committee as their Clinic Director as well as serving as the chairman of the St. Francis Athletic/Activities Hall of Fame.
He met his wife, Lani, at UMM and they continue to live in the St. Francis/Nowthen/Anoka area keeping busy following the activities of 3 grandsons in Maple Grove, MN. and 3 grandsons in Berkeley, California.
